Blog/How To Style/How to Style: Sports Luxe
As footwear specialists, it’s important for us to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to fashion trends. Spring/Summer 2015 is finally within our grasp and we couldn’t be more excited for the return of sassy summer footwear on our homepage!
The recent influx of fashion weeks and catwalk extravaganzas unearthed many exciting and innovative fashion looks and feels which we’re pretty excited about here at the Cloggs HQ, but none more so than the Sports Luxe trend. Though perhaps not a brand new style of fashion, judging by the catwalk and indeed the new Spring/Summer high street catalogues, it’s quite clear that it’s no fashion fad; indeed, it would appear that sports luxe is here to stay, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
So how do we achieve an effortless sports luxe look with our wardrobes? What are the statement sports luxe pieces we need and how do we style them?
Combining edgy style with comfort and practicality, sports luxe is a unique look which simply oozes cool and casual. Fashion influencers like Cara Delevigne and Millie Mackintosh can be regularly seen rocking this look, and we predict this trend is really on the rise.
Sports luxe is about bringing style and comfort together to create fabulous outfits that pack a punch in the style stakes and are easy to put together. Take some plain black joggers and a chic cropped slogan jumper that you might combine for a relaxed day at home, or a quick run around town. Add the bold Ash Cult in Gold Metal and you’ve instantly got a contemporary sports luxe look. Team with a chunky necklace and a scruffy up-do and you’ve got a look that’s straight off the catwalk.
We used Polyvore to create this outfit. Cropped tee: House of Fraser (£36), Tie Waist Crepe Jogger: Warehouse (£30), Ash Cult Flatform Trainers: Cloggs (£99), Burgundy Backpack: Cloggs (£22).
Achieving an on-trend sports luxe look is simple, you just need the right statement pieces in your wardrobe that can transform your casual clothes into a sports luxe masterpiece. Here’s our pick of the bunch to style that look.
1. Wedged Trainers
Wedged trainers add a fresh look to your classic, comfortable shoe. Adding a little wedge means you can take these shoes from day to night, creating a more classy dimension to your typical relaxation trainers. These wedges trainers add style and panache whilst staying true to the sports luxe theme. Anything that combines comfort and style is a winner for us!
Ash - Atomic, £99 Converse Hi Top - White Lux, £59 DKNY - Griffin, £160
These three wedged trainers are versatile and classic - in traditional colours, becoming capsule items for your sports luxe wardrobe, able to transform your typical outfit to sports luxe chic in a matter of seconds.
2. Slim-Fit Joggers
Slim fit, cigarette pants and skinny jeans are all the rage with trousers and bottoms this season, and indeed last season too! We’ve seen a huge boost in comfortable jogger-type trousers as a fashion staple, and the slim fit around the calf and ankle takes your typical lounge-wear into a more sophisticated dimension.
Ellesse Slim Jogger, £35, JD Sports
We love these Ellesse Slim Fit Joggers from JD, with a little splash of pink to perk up your outfit. In black, they’ll go with almost anything and you could add a wedged trainer, flatform or slip on shoe for an attractive sports luxe finish.
3. Flatform Shoes
If you like a little height in your shoe but value comfort just as much as style, then flatform shoes should be your go-to shoe. Adding a little height to define your legs and improve your posture, these selection of flatforms also offer a cool and contemporary feel, easy to wear and style.
Superga - White Flatform, £49.99 Ash - Takoon, £90 Ash - Jungle, £88.99
When it comes to flatforms, you have the luxury of a whole range of styles. You can see here we’ve picked a Superga plimsoll-style flatform, an effortlessly cool Ash slider style flatform, and a sparkly slip on flatform too.
4. A Statement Jumper
A statement jumper is an essential if you want to nail the sports luxe trend. Something that’s comfortable, chic but also screams style and personality. We’ve chosen this Adidas number because you simply can’t beat a classic sports brand for sports luxe, plus the neutral colours allow you to be a little more adventurous with your hair and makeup, or your shoe choices to take your sports luxe style from day to night.
Adidas Originals Authentic Crew Sweatshirt, £42, JD Sports
If you’re opting for a jazzy print trouser or jogger, try and stick to a plain jumper in neutral colours. Sports luxe is all about minimalistic looks, so make sure you don’t overdo it.
5. Slip on Trainers
Slip-on trainers are the cream of the crop when it comes to comfortable, stylish shoes. They literally slip on (the clue is in the name, after all), come in a variety of styles and designs and they can easily transform any outfit.
Ted Baker - Keziah, £94.99 DKNY - Beth Glitter, £85 Bronx - Slip-On Trainer, £70
We’ve chosen three statement styles of slip on shoe because we think the simple design of the trainer itself warrants a flashy pattern to really add an edge to your style. We love the versatility of these products, and trust us when we say once you’ve got a pair of these you’ll struggle to want to reach for anything else!
We used Polyvore to create this outfit. DKNY Sports Bra: Harrods (£60), Black SPorts Luxe Shorts: Spoiled Brat (£95), Ash Jordy Roccia/Black Dimante Trainers: Cloggs (£99), Black & Grey Bomber Jacket: Styligion (£36).
Sports luxe chic is easy to achieve, and with the few capsule products like we’ve listed in this style guide, your sports luxe style will be ready to go in no time. Effortlessly cool, ridiculously comfortable and totally chic - we predict that sports luxe will be in fashion for the foreseeable future, so you’d better pop over to Cloggs and start your shopping immediately.
