Blog/How To Style/How to Style: Office Chic
We don’t know about you, but we’re officially welcoming Spring/Summer 16 (SS16) with open arms after a pretty chilly couple of months. As much as we love stylishly layering up in Winter, we’re looking forward to being able to wear a t-shirt, jeans and some cute trainers - which are totally on trend this season, by the way. Another trend we’re predicting to be big this season is office chic. Gorgeous clothes and shoes that you can wear from work to the bar in one fell swoop - appropriate for important meetings and even more important outings! To prepare for the new season, we thought we’d bring you a little fashion inspiration, focusing on how to style office chic. We’ll show you which key pieces to invest in to build up an utterly versatile workwear wardrobe, and how to style them!
So let’s get started shall we?
For women, perhaps the most obvious office to night shoe is the high heel. Classy, sophisticated and appropriate for both situations, to wear a simple yet striking high heel will see you from day to night with ease. However, we thought we’d opt for some shoe styles that are a little more adventurous, a little less traditional and interesting for our style guide. If you want a classic day to night shoe, grab your trusty heels and team with smart trousers, a pencil skirt or some fitted jeans. If heels aren’t for you, then carry on reading!
Clarks - Hamble Oak - Dark Pewtar Metallic Dr Martens - Kensington Aila - Womens - Black Barker - Sloane - Cedar
You heard it here first - brogues are going to be a big trend for SS16. Traditionally a male style, many of our favourite brands have taken the brogue and given it a feminine twist - one which is so striking it’s simply perfect for wearing to work and then out afterwards. Brogues are the perfect partner to an a-line skirt, but we love them with cropped cigarette pants or fitted trousers too. On the weekend, a pair of brogues with some turned up jeans and a white t-shirt is a fashion-forward and totally chic look.
Clarks - Taylor Spring - Black Patent Combi Dr Martens - Adelaide Favilla - Womens - Oxblood FitFlop™ - F-Pop™ - Loafer - Black Lizard
Another traditionally masculine style, the loafer has been climbing up the style stakes and it’s most certainly here to stay in the limelight right through the SS16 season. Whether you’re opting for a tassel loafer or a slip-on, these cute and stylish shoes are beyond office chic. We would team them with a cropped trouser or fitted trousers. They also work well with tights and a dress - don’t you think?
French Sole - Simple Quilt Patent Toe - Black Butterfly Twists - Tara - Berry Leopard Sam Edelman - Lily - Black/White Metallic
A classic and comfortable option, the ballet shoe has long been the best friend of an office girl. Comfortable, simple and oh so stylish - this is a trend that is most definitely here to stay. Ballet flats are arguably the easiest to style - working with almost anything. We prefer ours to have a touch of character - whether that’s an interesting quilting to the leather, a bold colour pop or a slight heel with a pointed toe, the options are endless!
Barbour - Caveson Womens - Black Lauren by Ralph Lauren - Shelli - Womens - Polo Tan Clarks - Aldwych Wood - Black Combi Leather
Ahh ankle boots. We’ve covered how much we adore ankle boots so extensively on the Cloggs Blog - but still, there’s so much more to say! Ankle boots are incredibly versatile and look so smart in a work capacity - we love a heeled ankle boot with a pencil skirt! Similarly, they work perfectly with jeans and fitted trousers too - you can’t go wrong can you?
For men, there are an infinite number of options for keeping it cool and casual from day to night. Here are some of our favourite wardrobe staples that will take you from desk to dancefloor with ease.
Clarks - Dargo Limit - Navy Combi Leather Loake - Fearnley - Mens - Dark Brown Barker - McClean - Cedar/Paisley
Brogues are the classic formal footwear, often worn with suits. If you choose a brogue with a chunky, rugged sole, it makes them more casual, as does opting for a contrast sole or pattern and wearing them with jeans, which creates the ideal smart/casual attire. Opt for a high-quality brand and your shoes will last for years.
G.H. Bass - Weejun Larson Moc Penny - Black Leather Dr Martens - Adrian Mens - Red Tassel Barker - Morgan - Cedar/Rosewood
Loafers have stormed their way into fashion again, and we couldn’t be happier! The ultimate in slip-on style, whether you’re opting for a tassel loafer or a classic penny loafer, either style will work perfectly with jeans or fitted trousers. Add a t-shirt or plain white shirt for a fabulous look suitable for work or play!
Jack and Jones - Gobi Desert - Black Suede Superdry - Kalahari - Mens - Navy Suede Clarks Originals - Desert Boot - Cola Suede
Desert boots are a cool and contemporary style that look sublime with jeans - however, with a smart suede upper and classy-looking finish, desert boots are also more than perfectly acceptable for work too. Choosing a dark colour will offer versatility and a whole range of outfit options!
R.M. Williams - Gardener Boot - Black Leather Superdry - Kalahari - Mens - Navy Suede Dr Martens - 2976 Mens - Dark Brown
Chelsea boots are synonymous with country fashion, but as of late they’ve found themselves walking their way on to the high street and consequently into our office chic style guide! Chelsea boots are impeccably comfortable and incredibly stylish - just ideal for day to night wear. These can be worn with jeans or trousers, so take your pick!
So there you have it - the Cloggs guide to office chic attire that will perfectly cater for your work or evening outings - without needing a change of clothes! What are your ultimate day to night shoes? We’d love to hear from you!
