Beach Holiday Footwear Guide and Lookbook featuring Sperry, Havaianas and TOMS

The weather’s warming up, the sun’s starting to make more regular appearances, and in the UK that can mean only one thing: it’s coming up to Summer holiday season!

One thing we get asked an awful lot around this time of year by customers is how they can look good on the beach; with its inherent logistical problems, it can be a bit of a sartorial minefield.

That’s why we’ve put together this guide and complementary lookbook, which aims to help you stay looking fantastic no matter if you’re on shifting sands or problematic pebbles! To do this, we’ll be throwing the spotlight on three of our brands in particular - Sperry, Havaianas and TOMS. All three specialise in a different quintessential summer style; Sperry were the original manufacturer of the boat shoe, Havaianas are arguably the best known producer of flip flops in the world, and TOMS, founded in just 2006, have taken the traditional espadrille style and introduced it to the masses.

So sit back, relax, and let us get your beach chic imagination going!

Probably more suited to your cooler beach holiday than a sweltering one due to the fact that they feature a closed design with a leather upper, Sperry’s best known style, the Top-Sider, is the archetypal boat shoe. Originally rendered in a navy blue with a white outsole and detailing, they’ve since expanded into a huge range of styles and colours, as well as swapping the leather for canvas in the Bahama style.

Despite being relatively casual, there’s no denying the Top-Sider is smart; here, combined with a shortsleeve shirt, they negate the typical laidback association that shorts carry.

Here combined with jeans and a Breton striped poncho, the Top-Sider is truly in its element - the colder weather beach look is the one that we’ve come to associate with the original colour combination thanks to the company’s founding in Massachusetts.

As well as being practical, Sperry’s neat and tidy look is capable of dressing up a range of outfits.

Combined with a striped dress that could easily be worn over swimwear or out and about, here the Top-Sider demonstrates its versatility.

Of course, if you’re someone who tends to avoid the beach and has a wardrobe that reflects that, then Sperry’s nautical connotations can be used to make a beach-ready outfit from even a grunge-inspired ripped jeans look.

Again, the Top-Sider - combined with a Breton striped blue and white top - brings a nautical twist to an otherwise unlikely outfit combination for the beach.

A final demonstration of the Top-Sider’s versatility, here it’s paired with a fitted red dress, toning the outfit down rather than up and, thanks to its grippy sole, making it beach-ready.

The world’s best loved flip flops, Havaianas are best known for their Brasil Logo range, but their Slim collection is equally popular, boasting versatile, unobtrusive silhouettes rendered in a huge range of colours, including trendy metallics.

Havaianas trend

A truly classic beach look - smart shoes and a tank top - that can effortlessly transition from the beach to another casual setting.

Havaianas trend

Maxi dresses are one of the most versatile wardrobe pieces that you can own, and here the headband combined with Havaianas shows how good it looks when dressed down.

Havaianas trend

Less suited to the beach and more appropriate for evening wear at a restauarant with the sea breeze in your hair, here the T-bar Havaianas help to keep the outfit grounded and stop it from looking overly formal.

Havaianas trend

Perfect for achieving a smart casual look as soon as you step out of the water, this maxi skirt and tied t-shirt can be made as formal or as casual as you like depending on the patterns and materials used. For a dressier look, why not try Havaianas metallic range?

For classic beach chic looks, there’s few that are as iconic as a simple mix of pastels and corals combined with denim shorts.

Another classic look, this Havaianas, long t-shirt and fitted skirt combination is great for the beach as well as strolling around town.

A slightly more formal twist on the denim short look also on this board, here natural tones are combined with a Panama hat and Havaianas for a street-ready look.

Founded with an egalitarian mission of providing one pair of espadrilles free to a child in need for every pair they sell, TOMS have rapidly become a favourite of fashionistas everywhere. Like Sperry and Havaianas, TOMS shoes feature a simple, unencumbered silhouette that makes them work with countless looks and styles.

TOMS trend

That classic denim shorts and slouchy top combination - here complemented by an overshirt - is styled up thanks to the espadrille’s conservative silhouette.

TOMS trend

Demonstrating their versatility, TOMS effortlessly fit into this relatively formal beach outfit, helped by the fact that they match with the shorts.

A fantastic vintage-inspired look benefits from consistency of colour throughout.

Another example of how TOMS can bring a laidback beach outfit up a couple of notches in formality.

Similar to classic pumps, TOMS look great when combined with a beach dress.

This look really captures the beach chic vibe thanks to the trendy straw hat which is matched to the sandy-coloured TOMS.

Just as Havaianas and Sperry can, TOMS have the power to dress outfits up or down depending on which end of the formality spectrum they lie. Here, TOMS add a touch elegance to the casual combination of a slouchy striped top and denim shorts.
