The warmer weather is upon us, so while we can now enjoy an infinite number of Flake 99s and glasses of Pimms in the garden without feeling too guilty, we are also forced to endure that sticky, humid heat that leaves us feeling a little unsure about what to wear. Denim shorts sound great until they ride up and leave you feeling a little more exposed than you’re comfortable with. Floaty dresses are perfect unless you unexpectedly get caught with a beachy breeze. And then there’s the shoes. You want non-slip, not too chunky, in a neutral and versatile colour with perhaps a bit of pretty embellishment – oh and maybe with a slight heel too?

Knowing which summer shoes to invest in is a big decision, especially as here in the UK we’re not exactly blessed with an abundance of warm weather. But Cloggs stocks a huge variety of brands and hundreds of different styles, you really are spoilt for choice. So why not treat yourself to several different pairs? One for each of those gorgeous summer dresses hiding in the back of your wardrobe! I’ve picked out my top 5 designs to make your summer shoe shopping that little bit easier:

London Rebel - Corfu - Tan

The gladiator sandal is a classic summer shoe. It’s comfortable and versatile; working with everything from your beach playsuit to your peg-leg linen trousers. I love these London Rebel ones, in fact I styled them in a workwear outfit post, and matched them to my Fiorelli tote bag.

Toms – Seasonal Classics – Blue/White

I love these nautical canvas shoes from Toms, they’d be perfect with a lacy white sundress or denim dungarees. I love the striped design and the crossover fabric detail on the toe – so cute! I’ve never actually owned a pair of Toms but at this price, how can I resist?

Forever Unique – Boundry – Black

The luxury investment. You get what you pay for and these heels are something special. I love the gold-cap detail on the toe and the zip on the heel means they’ll be sturdy and comfortable to walk in. Caged sandals are super versatile and they’re definitely having a bit of a moment right now. Pair with a tailored jumpsuit or a floral swing dress and you’ll be ready to hit the beach bars and dance the night away.

UGG – Bria – Black

I hate flip flops. It doesn’t matter what colour, how beautiful the design on the sole, I just can’t make them work. I prefer something a little more classic, elegant and glamorous so I’m really crushing on these UGG sandals right now. They have a gorgeous plaited leather strap which gives them a bohemian feel and the no-fuss, simple toe-post design makes them perfect for the poolside.

Flossy – Classic – White

You really can’t go wrong with Flossy’s classic range and I’ve been fortunate enough to own 2 pairs, both of which I wore to death within a few months but at this price, they’re easily replaceable and you can build a collection of both simple and more sophisticated designs. They do a fantastic range of printed canvas shoes too, but for versatility, I’ll always choose a neutral colour that goes with everything.

Which is your favourite pair? I’ve added all 5 to my wishlist …
